New This Season – 14 Week Mental Training Program

Relaxed. Confident. Energized. Focused. These are all important mental aspects an elite athlete requires to be successful. It has been said that amongst the top athletes there is only a 10% variation in skill level; what makes the different is mental ability. We are giving mental training a renewed focus this season.

We are pleased to again be working with Kyle Paquette, a National and Olympic team mental ‘performance coach’, for the 5th straight season. New this year, we are introducing a formal mental training program with coaching workshops and mental training handbooks for our athletes and coaches. Kyle has ‘test driven’ this program with the Ottawa Mavericks High Performance 15-18u athletes this past season, and we’re pleased to be offering it to everyone in our club and be working with Kyle to develop and apply a 13-14U program.

We’ll be using three different handbooks for the 13-14U, 15-16U and 17-18U age levels, teaching age-specific skills. Our 15-16U and 17-18U athletes will complete 14-week programs consisting of weekly activities and sessions with their coaches. Our 13-14u athletes will complete an 8 week program.  Coaches are supported by seminars and consultation with Kyle.

We’re very excited to improve our program in this area as these are skills that are importent not only to make our athletes and coaches successful on the court, but also in their pursuits in life.
