The first tournament of the year was in Montreal, where they competed in the Montreal Cup, playing up in 16u. This two-day tournament was a new experience for the girls, with the pool play being capped at two sets and decided by points, and the ability to have unlimited subs.
Our Girls 15U Chargers have added two impressive medals to their collection since ringing in the new year.
The team did great on day one, only losing one set. In the afternoon, after re-pooling, they lost one match, which put them in Division A for playoffs.
The girls fought hard against all 16u teams that weekend, upsetting some of their Ontario counterparts (Milton, Georgian Cubs), but ultimately lost a nailbiting, edge of your seat, third set against Mousquetaire Mégantic. They came home with a well-deserved silver medal and received a lot of positive feedback and praise from parents, coaches and referees on their skill and level of play.
The following weekend, the girls played closer to home in another 16u tournament in Scarborough.
At the end of pool play, the girls were ranked second, having taken a match against E381, but a loss to Titans Eclipse.
After lunch, the girls faced off against Venom Vipers, winning in two sets. The girls struggled in the semi-finals against Leaside but bounced back in the bronze medal match against Markham Revolution to win the match in two sets.
Great work Chargers!
