The Girls 13U Black Nightmares placed 5th in the 13U Championship Bugarski Cup on March 5th. Despite some tough games and a number of injured players (and parents), the girls dug deep and played hard! We missed Jamie’s skill on the court as she is recovering from an injury, but she was able to help Nicole on the bench as Brian was out for the count! Some of the highlights of the tournament took place during warm up where we had an explosive tea knock out!
The morning started off with a commanding win against the Galaxy Asteroids (25-19 and 25-8). The girls then went on to face the Markham Revolution where we had some amazing rallies with the longest one lasting at least 100 consecutive touches! Despite a valiant effort and some solid hits and blocks, we lost 25-20 and 25-19.
After a nutritious lunch (and some delicious rice crispy squares), we played the Thundercats in our first crossover match and won both games (25-22 and 25-11). The win brought us face to face with the Aurora Storm and the Monsoon squad came in like a storm taking two straight (25-17 and 25-18). Shaking off the loss, the girls finished off the day with two solid wins (25-16 and 25-15) against Leaside Lightning to capture 5th place in the Championship level tournament.
The Girls 13U Black Nightmares have had an amazing year so far. Not only have they developed their volleyball skills, they have bonded as a team and demonstrated good sportsmanship in all games. Speaking for the parents, we are so proud of our girls, appreciative of the great coaching and looking forward to entering Provincials in April.
