Durham Attack 15U Girls Team Invasion Wins Bronze at Bugarski Cup

Durham Attack Girls 15U Team Invasion captured bronze at the 15U Bugarski Cup in Scarborough on March 2. For the last 15U tournament before Provincials, all the pieces came together for an exciting day of volleyball. From strong serves to digs, hits and volleys, Invasion showed how their skills and teamwork have improved tremendously since day one.

The day started off slow with a loss to DRVC Fusion 15-25 and 22-25. In the second set, the girls started to get back into form and it showed when they faced Peterborough Thunder (winners of the Gold medal) next. The team took the first set 25-15 and were up 20-10 in the second set when someone from the sidelines said, “I guess we’ve won this one.” The superstitious group of parents felt the jinx coming on and Peterborough came back to win the set 29-27. However, the girls came back to take the third set 15-10 after a nail-biter of a game and everyone could breathe easy until the next matchup after lunch.

It came down to point differential to decide which team in their pool would be in second place and Invasion won the spot. First up in the playoffs, Invasion faced Scarborough Overdrive in another match that had parents on the edge of their seats. It turned into another three-set game with the girls winning, 15-25, 25-22 and 16-14. They made it to the medal rounds for the first time this season!

First, they had to get past their sister team Durham Attack Extreme who unfortunately beat Invasion with power and precision with scores of 11-25 and 13-25. Team Invasion was, therefore, moving on to play for Bronze.

The last game of the tournament was against Northumberland Breakers and for the first time that day, the girls won in two straight sets 25-15 and 25-13. Parents, coaches and teammates erupted with joy on the last point and were all smiles as they accepted their Bronze medals in an informal but fun medal ceremony.

Next up for 15U…Provincials.
