Crimson girls’ season gets off to a bronze beginning

The DA 17U Crimson girls started their season off November 3rd with a trip to Ottawa for the 17U Girls Provincial Cup.

Playing in the Championship Division, the Crimson girls finished first in their pool after a hard-fought, three set win over the Attack 16U Velocity girls (a marathon that took an hour-and-a-half to complete) and a straight set win over the Cornwall Vikings Valhalla.

From there it was on to the quarterfinals where the girls played Ottawa Fusion. The Attack squad trailed for most of the first set but grabbed the momentum at just the right time to take the set 26-24.  And they kept that momentum, winning the second set in convincing fashion.

That set up a semi-final against host Ottawa Maverick Blackjacks. Unfortunately Attack ran into trouble in this game and fell to the hosts in two sets.

While it was disappointing for the girls to fall short of the gold-medal match, they took some time to re-group and prepared to play Phoenix Surge for bronze. And it paid off, with a strong showing and a straight set win for their first medal and a great start to the indoor season.
