Christmas Bling Comes Early for Girls 13U Black Nightmares

The Girls 13U Black Nightmares took to the court on December 19th in a 14U tournament hosted by the Scarborough Titans.  In a pool of only three teams and with the luck of the draw, the schedule didn’t have Durham Attack playing until the third match.  With confidence and composure the team defeated Unity Markham West (25-9, 25-2) and Northumberland Breakers VC (25-13, 25-15), and advanced into the crossovers with a first round bye.  During the lunch break the girls celebrated the season opening gifts and guessing their Secret Santa.

In the second cross-over game, a win over Toronto West put the Nightmares into the semi-finals.  The girl’s focus was tested when the gym lights went out resulting in a lengthy delay, but when the lighting was restored the distraction was quickly forgotten.  After a quick warm-up, the semi-final games were under way.  Durham Attack looked energetic and ready to play and defeated Etobicoke 381 Volleyballl Club 25-16 in the first game and took the second game by the same score.

The 13U team’s excitement for making it to the Gold medal game in a 14U tournament was visible, and the girls had something to prove.  The final game brought us up against 14U Premiere Volleyball Club (PVB) out of Toronto, who we had lost to in our very first tournament of the season. Durham Attack put up a good fight and showed true character and sportsmanship despite falling short of the Gold medal (25-20, 25-12).  Silver in a 14U tournament is an accomplishment the Black Nightmares should be proud of and besides, according to the Christmas carol, “Silver and Gold”, Silver comes first!
