Our Canadian mens team is moving up the world ranks. After qualifying for the FIVB World League Group 1 finals in Brazil (top 6 teams) they lost a tough first match to world champions and home team Brazil 3-1. Then upset Russia 3-0.
The team features three starters just out of the OUA and OVA – setter TJ Sanders and outside hitter Steven Maar who played for McMaster, and 18-year old Sharone Vernon-Evans of Pakmen. Vernon-Evans has recorded the second highest vertical jump of any volleyball player in history at 382 cm (12′ 6.5″), 1 cm short of legendary Cuban volleyball player Leonel Marshall. Kyle Paquette, who we have worked with for eight years on our mental training program, is the Mental Performance Coach for the team.
Our guys play in the semi-finals tomorrow against France, and the best I can tell is that the match is at 16:40 EST.
