WOW! Another amazing weekend on the courts for the U13 Girls Blitz! Coming off a Gold medal finish in the U13 Challenge Cup last weekend, the girls took part in the U14 Challenge Cup in Stouffville yesterday. Blitz finished Pool Play in last place, going 3 sets against DRVC Extreme and 2 close sets against Durham Attack Crush. Not ready to be counted out, the team came back in the playoffs, fighting hard to take the next 3 games to a tiebreaking set. They beat the Ancaster Lions in 3, then came up against DA Crush once again, and managed to take the third set 15-13 to move on to the Gold medal game. Their opponents for the final game were DRVC Extreme, who had taken them in the third set in Pool Play earlier. Blitz and Extreme were closely matched and in a repeat of their first game, Blitz took the first set, lost the second, and was on to a third tie-breaking set. The atmosphere was tense, and the girls fought hard, going point for point. In the end, they came within 2 points losing 15-13 and brought home a well-earned Silver medal. A highlight was to hear the praise from other team parents and coaches, who were impressed with this team of U13’s, able to compete toe to toe with the older girls and finish with a medal win. Congrats to Blitz for back to back medal wins at the Challenge Cups!
