On March 26, 2016 the U 15 boys competed in the last official tournament before Provincials. Coming off at 4th place finish at their last tournament in the U 16 division and several strong finishes 3rd place or better over the season, the boys were poised to do well.
However, perhaps the break between tournaments was too long or the time off over March break was too much but a medal finish was not in the cards for the boys this tournament. They came out of the gate strong narrowly losing to Aurora Storm taking losses at 25-19 and 25-23. These losses were largely due to serving errors and could easily be over come for the next match. Unfortunately, the loss seemed to have deflated the boys and the serving errors continued. They had moments of shear brilliance with superb blocking and some really great rallies but the win was not in the cards and they lost 25-21 and 29-27 against Mac. The downward spiral continued until lunch time where they took some time to regroup as a team. They came out revitalized after lunch and pulled their minds and game back together. They were able to gather themselves together as a team and not get flustered by lost points. This combined effort allowed them to win their next three matches and finish in 5th place for the day.
Although the boys did not do as well as they had hoped we are extremely proud of their hosting the event, their sportsmanship when calls did not go their way and the fact they proudly wore their SOLDIER ON shirts for every warm up for every game in support of our Canadian Troops. We are confident that they will come together even more as a team after this and continue on with the reputation they have grown to deserve and in this way they truly “Won’t be beat.”
