Troy Neill

Girls 15U Head Coach

Troy has played volleyball most of his life, through high school, University and in fact, you can still find him on the court today. However, when you ask him about his days playing, you will find him defer instead to his pride in the contributions he has made to the lives of the multitude of young athletes he has coached. Over his 25-plus years in coaching, Troy has learned that what makes someone a great coach is not really relative to the time they spend, or spent, playing, but rather relative to your understanding of the players and the game and your desire to help them become the best version of themselves. Troy invests a great deal in the relationships he develops with players and treats his athletes with respect and with his understanding of the pressure of youth athletes, combines an emphasis on skill development with an understanding of the tactics of the game.

Troy has coached with Durham Attack for the last 12 years, coaching at every age group form 12u through 18u, with both the men’s and women’s programs. Several years he has coached two team simultaneously for us. He has also assisted DA at camps and coached in our House league programs, focusing on athlete development. He is a very versatile coach with a strong skill set that lends itself to a variety of situations. He demonstrates a unique approach to practices, investing in his own training equipment to develop individual skills.

Troy also has the unique experience of being a former DA parent as all three of his children graduated from Durham Attack. He possesses a well-developed and perhaps unique perspective and understanding of the parent’s role on a team and embraces the opportunity to work with parents.

Ryan Olmstead

Girls 15U Coach

Although Ryan is returning for only his second year with Durham Attack, he is no stranger to coaching. As a high school teacher with the DDSB, Ryan has worked with numerous young athletes coaching volleyball, mountain biking, hockey, badminton, football, and rugby for over 19 years. Regardless of the sport, he brings the same professional dedication that has allowed his athletes to develop excellent skills while growing as people and leaders. His athletes are engaged, motivated and supportive of each other while still encouraging each other to work harder and develop more.

As an educator/coach, Ryan has organized two rugby tours to Wales/Ireland/England, won two LOSSA Rugby Championships and two LOSSA Volleyball Championships. He fills the role of Physical Education Department Head at J Clarke Richardson Collgeiate, leading coaches and students to develop healthy lifestyles. His prowess is not restricted solely to coaching as Ryan has achieved excellence as a competitor himself. As an athlete, Ryan played high school volleyball, rep. baseball, Jr. A Hockey and today remains active in men’s hockey and as a road and mountain cyclist.

In his free time, Ryan is a five- time member of the Ride to Conquer Cancer, benefiting Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The ride is from Toronto to Niagara Falls and involves both significant fundraising and dedication by the participant.
