17U Girls Black Wins Gold at Challenge Cup

On December 14th, the Durham Attack 17u Girls Black team competed in its second OVA tournament of the year, the Challenge Cup.  The morning preliminaries started with a bad break, in more ways than one.  In the warm-up, one of the players chipped her front tooth and the girls couldn’t find their groove in the first match, losing in 3 sets to the Scarborough Titans Revolution by scores of 19-25, 25-15, and 10-15.  The second match pitted the girls against the 16u Durham Attack Black team.  The DA 17u girls won both sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-13.

In the cross over, the girls played a scrappy Markham Stingers 16u team, however DA was too strong and was successful in two straight games by scores of 25-15 and 25-19. In the semi-finals, DA played the North Bay Vision 17u team who had recently beat DA in their first OVA tournament. The outcome this time was quite different, with DA taking both games by the scores of 25-14 and 25-21. The gold medal match was between DA and DRVC 16u. DRVC outsized the girls by a sizeable margin, however, DA was not intimidated and won the match convincingly in two straight by scores of 25-18 and 25-7.

The girls will be competing in the Premier Division in the next 17U OVA tournament in January.  Great job!
