On January 20 the Attack Red 16U girls were in Barrie for the 16U Challenge Cup.
First up in pool play was Markham Revolution Merge. The Markham squad had little trouble with the Red girls, taking the first set 25-13.
The second set was much closer. The teams were tied for much of the game and were deadlocked at 23-23 before Merge pulled ahead to win 25-23.
The second pool game of the morning pitted DA against the Thundercats. Attack took this game in straight sets.
Then after a quick lunch it was time for the
quarterfinals against Reach Affinity. Attack took control of the first set and never turned back, winning 25-14.
The second set also went Attack’s way, with the girls coming out on top of a 25-15 score.
That took Attack to the semifinals against Leaside, a squad they hadn’t faced since last year’s provincials.
Leaside came out on top of a 25-22 first set.
But the Attack girls weren’t about to give up.
The second set was a hard fought, neck-and-neck affair but ultimately DA pulled out to win 25-21, setting up a tie breaker.
The third set was also close, with the sides trading the lead, but Leaside reached 15 first, taking the third set 15-13. It doesn’t get much closer than that!
The Attack girls moved straight on to the Bronze medal match against DRVC.
The DRVC squad came out strong, taking the first set 25-14. But the Attack girls once again turned things around in the second, taking it 25-18 and once again setting up a third set.
And once again the tie-breaker had fans on both sides on the edge of their seats. But this time the DA girls gutted out a 16-14 win and took home the Bronze!
The Attack girls next see action February 17th when they start a run of three consecutive weekends of play.
