On December 2nd the Attack 16U Red girls played in the 17U Challenge Cup in Cobourg.
First up in pool play was Lindsay Invasion. The first set got off to a bit of a slow start but ultimately the Attack girls took the set 25-16. In the second set DA went up 13-0 and went on to win 25-14.
The next pool game was against the Pegasus Black team who got off to a quick 5-0 start. DA called a timeout then fought back to tie it at 6. The two sides were tied at 10 before the Red girls moved ahead strongly to take the set 25-12.
The next set was Attack’s turn to get off to a 5-0 start. In fact they went up 9-0 before Pegasus called a timeout. DA was up by 12 before Pegasus got on the scoreboard. The final result was 25-9 for Attack and secured them first place in their pool.
Then after a nearly 3 hour break it was time to face the Clarington Grizzlies in the quarterfinals.
Attack got off to a strong start in the first set and never let up, winning 25-11. In the second set DA got off to an early lead but then took their foot off the gas allowing the Grizzlies to go up 8-7 before calling a timeout. They fought back after that, taking the set 25-18 and moving on to the semifinals.
In the semis they came up against the powerful DA 17U Black team. The Red girls fell behind early in both sets but both times fought back to a respectable score. Ultimately, though, they lost the sets 25-18, 25-19.
That left them to play the Clarington Grizzlies 17U for bronze. Things were close in the early going of first set. The teams were tied at 7 before a good run of serve took Attack to a 16-7 lead. Attack won the first set 25-11 (???) And didn’t let up, taking the second set by a similar score.
That capped a stellar day with a bronze medal for the girls!
