The Attack 15U Red girls had a very successful weekend in Waterloo for Nationals. Playing in Division 2, the Red girls took all three of their Friday pool games in straight sets, defeating Bedford Blizzard from Nova Scotia, Georgian Cubs and Scarborough Titans Elevation, both from Ontario.
With first place in their Friday pool, the Attack girls were re-pooled for Saturday play. Once again, they went undefeated, with wins against the Ontario trio of Niagara Rapids Blue, Waterloo Tigers Black and Ottawa Mavericks Ambush.
Then after a quick overnight break, Attack were back at it early Sunday for the quarterfinals. In one of their best performances of the year, the girls defeated the Kitchener Waterloo Preds Ambush in straight sets to advance to the semis.
Unfortunately, the Red squad ran into some trouble with the team from MVC who had beaten them in the quarterfinals at Provincials two weeks earlier. MVC took the semi in two sets, and would go on to win the Division 2 gold medal.
But the Attack girls weren’t done yet. They re-grouped to face Scarborough Titans Elevation for the second time in the tournament and third time all season. To this point each team had beaten the other team once in close, hard fought matches. Once again, fans on both sides weren’t disappointed. It was neck and neck through the first set, but the Red girls reached the finish line first, taking the opener 25-23. The second set was also a close affair, but Durham won it as well, 25-20. The bronze was theirs.
It was a great weekend for the 15U Red girls and a terrific way to end their season. They scored 371 points while only allowing 270 on their way to eight wins in nine games.
Congratulations to all the girls and coaches on a strong finish to a season that showed a lot of growth and improvement.
