Once again the Voltage athletes and parents traveled the familiar roads to Stouffville.
The Voltage teams took to the courts to face their first opponents of the day, the Barrie Elites. They played a very strong first game which was rewarded with a 25-18 win. Game two proved to be a much closer game and the Voltage’s determination resulted in a 30-28 win. Whew….more gray hairs for our supporters.
Our next game had us facing the Markham Stingers team. Again with game one the Voltage team played steady and won 25-20. Game two was yet another close match which points traded back and forth. The girls never gave up and were determined to get this game done and after several tense points won the game with a 27-25 final score. Morning pool play saw our Voltage team first in their pool.
After a lunch break the girls were back onto the courts to face the Revolution Markham team. We should replicate the combination of lunch plates as our athletes came back to courts with consecutive 25-13 and 25-10 wins.
The next match was against the number one ranked Thundercats from Richmond Hill. The girls played solidly however, fell 22-25 and 18-25. This placed the Voltage in the bronze medal match.
Aurora Storm was the next opponent and the Voltage team had solid hits and great court coverage and won the first game with a score of 25-13. Game two saw nerves creep in on our girls and we lost the second game 13-25. Onto a nail biter third game as we closed down the tournament. It was a very intense game with points being traded back and forth. It was a hard fought match however despite their best efforts the Voltage team lost this heart breaking medal game at 19-21.
This tournament saw the girls play some of their best volleyball to date and we hope this provides them with renewed confidence going forward.
