• 14UG Voltage at 15U Girls McGregor Cup

The Voltage team traveled the well known roads back to the Stouffville gyms to begin play in their first 15U tournament this season on January 31st, 2015.

After some last minute tournament changes, the girls began their day facing their sister DA team. Despite falling to the Dynamite the Voltage athletes took to the floor with solid passing and three hit points. They had great digs and played strong but lost some of their zing along the way.

The Markham Panthers traded points back and forth with the Voltage in two close games with each team taking one game (L24-26 and W27-25).

With a quick break in between the girls took to the courts again to face the Markham Stingers team. The first game found the girls a bit slower on the court. Another close game was played with game one going to the Stingers with a score of 23-25. Game two proved to be a different story for our Voltage team. The spring was back in the Team’s steps and the string of excellent serves proved to be the tipping point as the Voltage took the sting out of the Stingers with a solid win of 25-16.

After a quick lunch break, the Voltage was back on the court and used their solid three hits balls with wins of 25-12 and 27-25. Their fifth match of the day saw them face the number one ranked Team of the tournament, the Peterborough Thunder. Many points were evenly traded between the two teams with several long well played rallies. This nail biter saw the Thunder victorious with a 25-22 win. Game two demonstrated that the Voltage athletes were not yet done for the day. Their commitment to three hit ball, forceful serves and covering that “black hole” proved to be the right recipe for success. Their efforts were rewarded with a win of 25-15. Our athletes were beginning to tire as they headed into game three. They showed great determination as they dug deep and they went down swinging ultimately losing to the Thunder 10-15.

After playing a lot of volleyball today, they now faced the Markham Panthers for the second time today. The girls played hard, dug deep, made some amazing tips and came out victorious with a 28:26 win. Game two saw a tiring team hit the court with lower energy and missed opportunities. They went down fighting but lost 16-25. Another game three was upon us as the spectators tried to steady their nerves. Close points were traded with many rallies and solid play by all. Unfortunately the Voltage had lost some of their power and went down swinging with a loss of 12-15.

It had been a long and hard played day for all of athletes as they played in their first 15U tournament. They demonstrated that they have the skills to play well and with time to refresh, regroup and refocus themselves for their next adventure.
We continue to be grateful to all parents and supporters for their amazing cheering and dedication to their scoring and lining duties. The delicious array of food always graces our luncheon tables and nourishes us all throughout the day.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK Voltage !!
