The DA 14U Spitfires showed everyone they belong in Championship, taking bronze on Saturday at the Burgarski cup in Whitchurch-Stouffville!
It was a day of ups and downs, tension and nail-biters, with all teams at the tournament very evenly matched.
The Spitfires chose to save their winning ways for the afternoon, giving up the first two games to Phoenix Voltage and the Maverick Bandits. There must have been something in that lunch the parents put together though because the boys turned things around in the afternoon.
In their quarterfinal, the Spitfires first faced off against Pakman Black. The boys won the first set 25-20 and were ahead 11-5 in the 2nd, but Pakman battled back to win it and even go ahead 12-7 in the tiebreaker. The Spitfires were able to turn it around just in time though, winning 8 straight points to advance to the semifinals.
The boys fought hard in the semis against Reach Alpha, the hosts and eventual winners of the tournament. But the Spitfires fell in two sets, setting them up for a bronze medal game against the Milton Edge Knights. This was a great game with the Spitfires taking the first set 25-22 and losing the second 17-25. The tiebreaker was all Durham Attack though, with them leading 8-3 and then winning by a final score of 15-9. The Spitfires continue to improve and look to be in great shape for a 15U tournament next weekend, and the Provincials in April. Go Attack!
