It was a long and challenging weekend at the 14U Provincial Championships April 4th-6th – but Legacy finished the weekend with a result to be very proud of!!
The girls started out strong on Friday with two straight 2-set wins over MVC Black and Oakville Thunder Blue. But then, Legacy faced their nemesis Scarborough Titans Tektonics for the 3rd game of the day, frustratingly not being able to find the upper hand, losing in two sets 23-25, 16-25.
Saturday brought some tough competition. The first exciting game of the day against last year’s Gold Medallists, Aurora Storm Typhoon, was a good fight – with Legacy winning the first set 25-19, but Storm would not give up easily, and Legacy gave up the second and third sets. The second game of the day was a close challenge against Etobicoke Titans Oceanus who managed to take the match (28-26, 25-22), but then Legacy finished the day strong with a thrilling win over Predators Purple, winning 25-21, 26-24.
Sunday was a huge day – with great serving and power earning Legacy wins vs. Georgetown Impact (25-14, 20-25, 15-12), then in the Quarter Final vs. Forest City Green (25-14, 25-21), excitingly advancing them to the Semi-Final of Division 1 Tier 1 vs. Hurricanes Black from Burlington. It was a neck-and-neck game, with Hurricanes taking the first set (25-22), Legacy fighting back hard in the second (25-20), but in the third, Hurricanes pulled ahead to take the win 15-7 to advance them to the Gold medal match, and Legacy to the Bronze medal match.
Legacy faced Markham Stingers for the Bronze medal, and pulled out their excellent skills in the close battle. Despite yielding the first set 22-25, they were able to push out the win in the 2nd and 3rd sets (26-24, 15-12) to claim the Bronze medal! All the hard work and all the strength and skills the girls have gained this season earned a top-3 finish in the province – way to go Legacy!!
