Athletes, coaches and parents alike were filled with excitement and were eager to begin play at the 13U Girls Provincial Cup, being held at the University of Toronto.

The AVALANCHE team was on fire on Saturday (November 30th) as they played in their first tournament of the season!!

Our first opponents were the Scarborough Titan Titaniums. The Avalanche stepped onto the court with a few jitters; however, they buckled down to play their own game. Despite their best efforts, they succumbed to an 11-25 and 12-25 loss.

Coach Joel took the girls aside to regroup the team and to have them redirect their focus back to “their” game. Our next opponents were the Ottawa Fusion team. The Avalanche girls dug deep, executed numerous three hit plays, remarkable hits and were victorious! They took the set in two straights games, with game scores of 25-21 and 25-12.

After a rather long break in play, the Avalanche faced the Ottawa Maverick Rattlers team. Our Team was re-energized and every player was sharp as they came onto the court. Their remarkable serves and exceptional team play were evident on each point. The first game was closely played until the Avalanche kicked it up a notch. Their efforts were rewarded with a 25-20 win. Game two proved to be challenging and the Rattlers were able to take game two with a 11-25 score.

Game three was a nail biter for everyone. Coach Joel brought the Avalanche back to the heart of their game play. After a few early points, the girls began building on their enthusiasm and renewed confidence. The Team threw themselves into the game, with dynamism. Calling the plays and absorbing the energy and encouragement from their supporters, created the right mojo for the girls. Each player approached each point with single-mindedness and they closed out the match with a 15-8 win!!

Our Avalanche team now faced our “sister” club, the Black “Chaos” team in the semi-final round of play. While some of the individual points had our girls scrambling, they rallied together and gave the Chaos team an extremely challenging game one. The Avalanche eventually succumbed to a 10-25 loss.

Game two saw an insanely revitalized team present on the court. The passes, sets, spikes, digs and serves were all first-class!!! Exceptional fortitude, sheer drive and extensive court coverage resulted in the Avalanche leading the game during several points in play. The skill level of our team stupefied the Chaos team. Despite their tenacity, they dropped this extraordinarily played game, with a 22-25 loss.

An unparalleled sense of pride was palatable in the gym, by all athletes, coaches and supporters!!! This Team was absolutely astounding!!! Now onto the bronze medal match!!

Avalanche was now playing our other “sister” club team, the Red “Heat” team. Coming off of their huge game with Chaos, our athletes were warmed up and ready to grab that medal! Once more, this young team came onto the court with unparalleled spirit and ambition. Each point saw our Avalanche team determined to carry out their game to dictate each point and be on the offensive. Again, this team was astounding as they met hard spikes with high bumps and successfully executed blocks. This was another nail biter game for everyone, which eventually realized a heart breaking 24-26 loss. A brief break and back onto the court for game two. Our athletes geared up to fight for each point but their well was depleted. Some fabulous bump-set-spikes runs were magnificently carried out however, we fell short of a win with a score of 10-25.

Congratulations to our Avalanche Athletes on their extraordinary accomplishments at today’s tournament!!!

All of our incomparable Avalanche athletes have put in many hours in the gym to cultivate their skills. This dedication can only see them succeed in the future as they continue their season.

Special thanks to coaches Joel, Taylor and Steph for their dedication and enthusiasm (way to jump Joel) throughout each game. A shout out goes to all the parents for a delicious buffet lunch and also to our score keepers and line judges for picking up additional shifts.
