What an experience for the eight athletes of Team TNT who travelled to the Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic in Washington, DC.
The venue was absolutely massive with courts and athletes as far as the eye could see. It was a little overwhelming as a spectator, so I could only imagine how the girls felt.
TNT’s captain’s proudly presented each of the opposition’s captain with a pair Canada Mittens before each game which was a huge hit amongst the other teams.
The first match was against a very highly ranked Team Beach Elite 13R Adidas from Virginia Beach. TNT lost the first set 25:10 but pulled together to play a stronger game in the second set. However, TNT was overcome by the mighty Beach Elite losing 25:21. This team finished in second place.
The next opponent was from Maryland – COT 13-1 Royal. TNT went into this match with a little more confidence and played a very strong first set, winning 25:15. The next set was very tight, point for point. TNT tried to keep their lead but the opponent played to win, taking the set 25:17 sending the match to a tie breaker. Again it was a point for point battle resulting in a loss TNT 15:12.
The last match of the day was against Clash 13 from Manassas, Virginia. The first set was very well-played, only to be beaten 27:25. TNT took control of on next set winning 25:20 but lost in the tie breaker 10:15.
The second day of play was deemed Breast Cancer Awareness day and TNT wore special Pink Jerseys for warm up in support of the cause.
TNT first met ODYSS13-1 from Pittsburg. The girls lost both sets 25:20 and 25:18.
The next match was against the No Panic 13 Warriors from the Northern Virginia area. TNT play a strong game against this club and took command of the court winning both sets 25:13 and 25:15.
The last match of the day was against MVA from Michigan. TNT was determined to win. Both sets were played point for point until the end as TNT dug hard to win 25:20 and 25:17.
The last day of play on President’s Day was against a team from Alexandria, Virginia the MOJO Flames 13. TNT lost the first set 25:23. TNT was not going down without a fight starting the next set with very strong serving gaining a 9 point lead to win this set 25:9. They started the tie breaker with confidence playing point for point, losing in the end 15:6.
TNT finished the weekend ranked 33rd in their division. This experience will only make the Team TNT stronger as they look forward to a few more Tournaments before the Provincials in April.
